Random Thursday: Favourite Childhood Memory...

Sorry I'm late to the party - we had one of our three big work events last weekend and I'm still trying to catch up - so I'm behind on everything. Also sorry for the uneditedness and lack of pics - but it's going up like this or not at all, so too bad!

This week's Random Thursday with Lin, Meg and myself is:

Phew. This is a tough one. I mean, how do you distill an entire childhood down to one favourite moment? I'm certainly having trouble. But I'll do my best.

1.
The first thing you need to know, contextually speaking, is that I grew up on a small hippy island off the west coast of Canada. Lots of patchouli and pot smoking. Also very little pop culture. My parents decided I'd be a better-adjusted and more well-rounded child without television. I blame them and this silly rule for my inability to moderate my TV intake now, but that's another story. Anyway, one of my favourite things as a kid was going over to a friend's house and watching TV. Also loved sleepovers. And going to the movies.

2.
As a child I did outdoorsy stuff - you know, cos I didn't have a TV and was an only child so I didn't even have another kid to beat up to pass the time. One of the outdoorsy things I did was horseback riding. I rode at the local trail riding stables in exchange for helping muck out stalls, groom horses and bringing up the rear to keep an eye on nervous tourists. I loved horses (still do - as evidenced by my waterworks when watching the Budweiser Clydesdale commercial), so a lot of my best memories involved riding. One time I got to ride my favourite horse, Tess, down the mountain into town for the Fall Fair. It was both terrifying and exhilarating, I can tell ya!

3.
Some of my other faves weren't at the time. My parents bought a fixer upper, so my childhood was full of horrifying moments like holding dry wall up  in a crawl space with my feet or mowing an acre of lawn, a lot of which was on a hill... but the up side is that I have some basic knowledge of how to use tools and repair things, and that comes in handy. (It's been years, so I feel the need to point out that by basic I mean I don't hit my thumb when using a hammer, I know how to fix a running toilet, I think I could probably still chop wood without losing a limb if I had to and I can light a fire. It's not like I can build you a house from scratch or anything.)

That's about all that comes to mind at the moment, let's see how you guys do! Link up below!

Random Thursday: If I Were Queen for a Day...

You know what time it is... time for another RT with Lin, Meg and myself! This week's topic is:

I gotta admit, this topic is a tough one. First of all, queens don't have much power anymore these days.  Second of all, what can you really do in a day? I'd want to solve third world debt or legalize gay marriage in whatever country I was queen of or, you know, renounce the crown because royalty is silly. Yeah, not a whole lot of realistic inspiration on this one. So let's go with the wildly ridiculous, shall we?

If I were queen for a day, I'd jet off to Paris and spend the day wandering around. I LOVE Paris. It's the sort of place where you can't get bored, where every corner you turn takes you somewhere magical.

I'd visit the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower, enjoy a café latte and visit as many French pharmacies as I could. My most recent obsession is French pharmacie cosmetics. They're seriously amazing, and I could spend all day exploring and stocking up!

Yeah, not super inventive, I know. But it's all you're gonna get outta me this week. So now it's your turn to show me how it's done! Link up:

Random Thursday: Ridiculous Fears...

First of all, sorry this is late. I fell asleep watching TV last like like a senior citizen. Anyway, here's this week's topic from Lin, Meg and myself:

I don't really have any ridiculous fears. Mine are all totally valid. Like twin girls with blonde ringlets. Who wouldn't be terrified? But I suppose there are one or two that a few of you might not share. So here they are. My totally legit phobias, in no particular order.

1. Running out of things if they get discontinued

I know, I  know.  If something gets discontinued, I'll just find something else. But if I really love something, I just can't leave it to chance. I've been known to buy three or four of a product I LOVE - particularly if it's limited edition. And no, that picture is not my own collection. Mine's much, much bigger.

2. Clowns

Come on. They're completely freaky. So freaky, in fact, that I can't bring myself to put a picture of a real one. So this is all you get.

3. Serial killers hiding in my closets or behind the shower curtain

Sometimes it gets really bad and I can't close my eyes in the shower and then I get soap in my eyes.

Okay, you're up. What makes you jump out of your skin?

Random Thursday: Last 5 Frivolous Purchases...

Time for another Random Thursday with me, Lin and Meg! This week's time for y'all to 'fess up to your real spending habits. We want to know what were your:

Hmmm. This one's a week early, cos I'm pre-writing this before going on a trip, and I'm sure I'll make some frivolous purchases along the way! But here goes...

1. Nars 413 BLKR Shadow Duo

I fell in love with this and... well... I just had to have it. It's gorgeous.

2. Starbucks

I LOVE Starbucks. My faves are the peppermint mochas, lattes, croissants and banana chocolate chunk muffins. Mmm-mmmm.

3. OPI Rapid Dry Top Coat

So I guess technically this is frivolous, though honestly I'm not sure what I'd do without it!!

4. Moleskine 2013 Pocket Planner

It's small and light enough to fit in my purse and I love Moleskine journals! This colour is awesome - wish they did regular journals this colour as well as planners!

5. Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight

Okay, so I haven't bought this yet - but I'm planning to stop in a B&N on my trip and pick one up! I've been coveting one since they came out.

That's it for me - what have you splurged on recently? Link up and share!

Random Thursday: Embarrassing Celeb Crushes...

Time for another Random Thursday with Lin, Meg and myself. Now, this week's topic will require some candor. You might be tempted to lie, but don't. No one's judging. Well, we're not, anyway. Time to spill, who are your:

I'm not huge on celebrity crush obsessions, but there are a few celebs who are a bit of alright. Most of them aren't that embarrassing, and are pretty predictable, but there's one or two that will probably make you guys go "huh?" So not so much embarrassing as, well, surprising. Here goes...

1. Robert Sheehan

He's just so... Irish! Way too young for me, so I feel a bit pervy having a huge crush on him, but what can I say. It's the eyes, the accent and the dry sense of humour.

2. Chad Lindberg

Not exactly your typical Hollywood hottie, but again, there's just something about him. His voice and quirkiness. Plus he seems like the kind of guy who'd be funny (check out the T) - seeing a theme here?

3. Robert Downey Jr.

Apparently I like my Roberts either much younger than me, or quite a bit older. But whatever, he's the funniest man in Hollywood, and you could never accuse him of being boring. Plus, he's Iron Man. So one can assume he'd be... you know... ahem. Anyway.

4. James Deen

I'm not sure if you guys will all have heard of this fellow yet - cos he's an adult film star. He's crossing over into the mainstream with his upcoming role alongside Lindsay Lohan in The Canyons, so y'all can take a look at him. Probably more clothed than he's ever been on screen before. I like him because he's - of course - hilarious. It's rare to find an adult film star who can carry a plot and pull off witty quips (while taking care of "business," no less), but this guy is one of the few. And he's got that cute boy-next-door thing going on - even if he has been around he block a few times.

5. Mila Kunis

Everyone knows she's a hottie. Plus she's spunky, funny, cute and not afraid to be nerdy or go out in her sweatpants. Definitely would give the home team a go on her account.

That's all I can think of for now, so it's your turn. Who secretely gets your motor running? Who glues your eyes to the TV screen? Who has that indefinable something that overcomes whatever makes them an embarrassing crush? Do tell.

Okay, So Maybe the Superbowl Ain't ALL Bad...

Any of you who know me will be able to guess that I really couldn't care less about football, the Superbowl or Beyoncé. But I did watch some of the commercials, and I gotta say, these two are pretty awesome.

So cute, right? My next pet is totally going to be a baby wolf.

This one...*sniff*...I just...*sniff*....brb.
