Random Thursday: Things I Love About My BFF...

This week's topic is one that's pretty easy for me. Lin, Katrin and I want to hear all about...

Well, for starters, let me say that I've pretty much got the best BFF in the world. So you guys can go ahead and prepare to be jealous now. First of all, a couple of reasons that don't really work in GIFs:

She's basically the most selfless person I've ever met. I won't go into details about why, because I don't know how personal she would be comfortable with me getting, but here's just one example: When she shops on Amazon, she only buys stuff for her dog. AMAZON IS FULL OF BOOKS AND MOVIES AND AWESOME AND SHE GETS STUFF FOR THE DOG. I'm pretty sure that furry little cutie dresses better than me.

She and her hubby drove me all over Vegas on an epic mission to find a Barnes & Noble. Which took hours, and was very confusing and at times a bit scary because it was my first experience with Onstar and honestly I don't think they know what they're talking about. But she got me there because she said she would. That's what she's like - if she makes a promise, you can bet your ass she'll find a way to come through.

And, of course, there's the fact that we became best friends without ever having met.

(Oh, and in case you haven't figured it out by now, my amazingly, epically awesome BFF is Lin!)

And now for the many, many GIFs to illustrate Lin's awesomeness (warning: this is going to be long, and because I'm currently embroiled in a Grey's Anatomy re-watch, and because the Cristina/Meredith friendship is eerily familiar, they're GA GIFs):

She is totally fine with me saying things that most
people would be very offended by.

She enjoys grumpy.

She gives great pep talks when I need them.

She hates people as much as I do.

She agrees that emotions are uncomfortable and
unpleasant and that there should be a pill to make
 them go away.

She doesn't mince words.

She will comiserate with me for hours about how life is
confusing, exhausting, and generally makes no sense.

We both love food. Particularly pizza.

She's hilarious. But you guys already know that.

She puts up with me, even when I'm annoying.

She loves to talk trash and judge people.

We both get that life often requires alcohol. A lot of alcohol.

Her hubby and I get along too and are not above being in
cahoots if it's for a greater cause, i.e. making Lin happy.

We both have issues.

Pessimism is great for bonding.

She sends me these amazing care packages with
these delicious mini cookies... I dream about
those cookies.

She also has an inappropriate sense of humour.

She lets me complain to her. For hours. Days, in fact.

There are about 20,000+ other things I love about her, but you get the idea. Basically:

So how about you guys? What makes your BFF the very best ever?

Time for Something a Little Bit Different...

Okay, so it doesn't have that awesome plastic wrap for you to peel off, but it is new. A new blog, that is. That's right ladies and possibly the odd gent, I've embarked on a shiny new writing endeavour with our favourite blogger, the inimitable Lin! We decided we were a bit bored of blogging solo, and that we might just have more fun if we blogged as a duo. Don't worry, we're still keeping our own blogs going, but we're adding a new, funny one. So if you need a laugh, like new things or are just morbidly and unabashedly curious, head over and check out L and M.

Random Thursday Update

As some of you guys have probably noticed, we've hit a bit of a snag with Random Thursday for the past few weeks. If you follow Lin's blog, you'll likely know that she's crazy busy in RL at the moment, which has left her with a lot less time for her blog. The past couple of weeks she's been doing her crazy new job and training someone for her old one - so basically doing two jobs.

Since Lin is our fearless leader and general RT goddess, she's typically been the one who has organized weekly emails (along with making buttons, Tweeting, creating the link-up... basically girl does it all), without her taking the lead we've dropped the ball a couple of times. Not only that, but I've been traveling (yay!) and stupid busy with one of the three major work events I have to do throughout the year (boo!) so I haven't had much more free time than she has to step in and take over.

All I can say is sorry to each and every one of you guys for the lack of communication on the RT front! We're currently in transition so that we can pick up some of the slack for Lin while she's buried up to her eyeballs in stupid work, so I hope to get some emails scheduled to resume ASAP. In the meantime, please check our blogs if you'd like to link up with us - RT is still happening, and we do have a ton of topics scheduled for you guys!

Thanks for being patient with our disorganized asses!

Random Thursday - Fun Summer Reads!

thursdayEm

Welcome to this week's Random Thursday with Lin, Sarah - and me! Thanks to everyone who joined in our inaugural RT link-up last week, welcome back to those of you who decided to join in again, and "nice to meet you" to everyone who's just joining us!

First of all, sorry this post is a day late! I haven't yet gotten ahead of the game, since this is a new thing for me, and I lost a night to dilating eye drops. I'm hoping that that whole "better late than never" thing is true, cos I will also tell you now that this will not be the only time this happens! Anyway, on to this week's Random Thursday topic, which is.....

This topic is right up my alley (and no, I didn't pick it!), since I love books. I love reading them, looking at them - and buying them! However, I don't really have what I'd call "summer reads." I have a pile of books that I go through as the mood strikes me. So instead of sharing books about summer or that you probably saw on supermarket shelves and top 10 lists throughout the season, I'm going to share a couple of books I have enjoyed or am reading at the moment. On the plus side, this means you don't have to rush to get through them in the next couple of weeks before it's officially fall!

1. COMPACTS AND COSMETICS - Madeleine Marsh

If you are a makeup junkie - particularly if you find the social context of historical makeup trends fascinating - this book is a must read. I first heard about it in one of Lisa Eldridge's videos... and she explains it much better than I ever could. So here it is:

2. UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN - Frances Mayes

I know a lot of you probably know this title from the movie rather than the book. But trust me, that old rule about the book being better is definitely true in this case. I haven't read this in years - I first picked it up in high school, which was longer ago than I'd care to admit - but I loved that it really gave me a sense of Italy. Not just of what it's like to be a tourist there, but the subtle differences that you only learn by spending months - if not years - somewhere new. It's whimsical and will definitely make you want to go to Italy. (Fair warning, it will also make you hungry.)

3. THE RUM DIARY - Hunter S. Thompson

Above is the movie poster because Johnny Depp, but it's based on a book by Hunter S. Thompson. Yep, the Gonzo king himself. It was his first book (and probably most coherent) and one of his few works of fiction. This one is sort of a summer book, in the sense that it is set on a tropical island and includes a lot of rum drinking. Okay, so you have to really want to see it...

4. LET'S PRETEND THIS NEVER HAPPENED - Jenny Larson

I nearly forgot this one! I got it for my birthday, and have purposely been allowing myself to read only a little bit at a time - because I never want it to end! As bloggers, many of you will already be familiar with The Bloggess, but if you're not, it's time you got on that. Like, now. She's witty, hilarious, occasionally medicated and always entertaining.

That's it for this week's Random Thursday - hope to see you again next week! If you want to see more of what I'm reading, head over to my book blog, Backlist Books - I haven't had much time to read since the move, but it has a lot of reviews of old faves, and I'll be getting back to it soon!
